Sir Dorabji Tata Trust initiates the process to select a successor to Natarajan Chandrasekaran as Chairman of Tata Sons ahead of the end of his current tenure in February 2027.

The Sir Dorabji Tata Trust (SDTT) has passed a resolution to initiate the formation of a selection committee to recommend a successor to Natarajan Chandrasekaran as Chairman of Tata Sons.

The move follows Chandrasekaran informing the trust’s Nominee Directors on August 12 that he would not seek reappointment after his current tenure ends on February 20, 2027. The selection committee will recommend a candidate for appointment as the next Chairman of the Tata Sons Board. SDTT said it would support Tata Sons through the leadership transition, with the succession process to be conducted in accordance with the company’s Articles of Association.

SDTT holds approximately 28% of Tata Sons, making it the largest shareholder, while the Sir Ratan Tata Trust holds around 24%. The Sir Ratan Tata Trust is currently restricted from holding meetings under a directive issued by the Maharashtra Charity Commissioner.

The succession process gives Tata Sons more than six months to identify and appoint a new Chairman before Chandrasekaran’s tenure ends.
