Gujarat Industries Power Appoints Rajender Kumar as Nominee Director

 Gujarat Industries Power Company Limited has appointed Dr. Rajender Kumar, IAS, as an Additional Director and Nominee Director, with the appointment approved by the Board of Directors on September 19, 2026.

Gujarat Industries Power Company Limited has appointed Dr. Rajender Kumar, IAS, as an Additional Director and Nominee Director, following approval from the Board of Directors on September 19, 2026.

Dr. Rajender Kumar is currently the Managing Director of Gujarat State Fertilizers & Chemicals Limited (GSFC). The company has also announced the cessation of Narendra Nath Misra as an Independent Director.

Rajender Kumar is a 2004-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Gujarat Cadre with more than two decades of administrative and leadership experience. He has served as District Development Officer of Bharuch and Ahmedabad and as Collector and District Magistrate of Rajkot and Surat.

Between 2016 and 2021, he worked at the policy formulation and strategic leadership levels in the Government of India. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he served as the sectoral officer in charge of health in the Prime Minister’s Office and acted as a central coordinating authority across various Ministries, Departments and State Governments.

From 2021 to 2024, Kumar served on the Board of the World Bank as Advisor to the Executive Director for India, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Sri Lanka. He also served as a Council Member of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), representing India and neighbouring countries. In July 2024, he was appointed Secretary to the Government of Gujarat.

Since January 2026, he has been serving as Commissioner of Transport, Government of Gujarat, while also holding charge as Managing Director of GSFC. He holds a B.A.M.S. degree in Ayurvedic Medicine.
