Capital Gearing Trust has appointed Emma Moriarty as a named fund manager across its multi-asset funds with immediate effect, joining Chris Clothier and Peter Spiller in managing the portfolios.

Capital Gearing Trust PLC, a London-based investment trust, has appointed Emma Moriarty as a named fund manager across its multi-asset funds with immediate effect.

Moriarty has been with Capital Gearing Asset Management (CGAM) for four years and has managed its three bond funds for the past two years. Before joining CGAM, she served as a Senior Economist at the Bank of England, bringing extensive macroeconomic and fixed income experience to her new role.

Moriarty will manage Capital Gearing Trust and CGAM’s other multi-asset funds alongside Chris Clothier and Peter Spiller. The three fund managers will have equal decision-making authority as part of the investment management structure.

As part of the leadership change, Alastair Laing will step back from his role as co-manager to focus on his responsibilities as Chief Executive Officer. Laing highlighted Moriarty’s growing contribution to the investment team, including her expertise in macroeconomics, fixed income and index-linked bonds.

Moriarty said she is pleased to take on a greater role after working closely with Spiller and Clothier since 2022. She added that she will continue to support the disciplined, long-term investment philosophy that has guided the company’s investment management.
